Mendelssohn was so taken with the history and landscape of Scotland that it inspired his Symphony No. 3, which is inflected with stylistic elements of Scottish dances. The program opens with a World Premiere by Joel Thompson, followed by NY Phil Principal Trombone Joseph Alessi as soloist in Tan Dun’s concerto inspired by three ancient Chinese instruments. Jaap van Zweden conducts.

Music Director Jaap van Zweden conducts Mozart’s timeless Requiem, a work of great poignance and emotional depth.

NY Phil musicians take the solo spotlight in this concert conducted by Music Director Jaap van Zweden. Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante highlights the interplay between violin and viola, and in Brahms’s Double Concerto the violin and cello team up in dialogue with the orchestra.
